YS is from Compton which has been one of the most notorious cities for the hip-hop community since the 1980s. At the time it was Ice Cube and N.W.A when they took the game by storm with their reality rap.
In our current generation the South Central city produced mainstream artists such as Kendrick Lamar, YG, and Roddy Ricch. It seems like almost every year there’s a rapper that blows up from The CPT, and an artist who has the potential to do just that is YS. The 20-year-old artist has been on the come up for a full year now after the release of his viral hit “Bompton” featuring 1TakeJay & OhGeesy.
In April of this year he teamed up with platinum producer Ron-Ron to give us the 10-track joint project Street Icons. Earlier this month he followed that up with his album Cold Hearted that features the likes of Westside Boogie, Guapdad 4000, and Sada Baby.
The Compton MC took time to sit down and talk about the two projects he’s dropped this year, linking up with Guapdad 4000, being two for two with Sada Baby, the growth he’s shown as an artist in the early stages of his career, and more. Check out the full conversation out now on YouTube, and stream Cold Hearted on all streaming platforms.
